Speed/Limit Privacy Policy

Summary: Speed/Limit uses location to show your speed and identify nearby roads. Road lookups send coordinates or a search area to external map services. Firebase provides diagnostics and optional account, settings-sync and road-contribution services. The information sent depends on the feature and app version.
1. Information We Collect
Location Data (GPS)
- Speed/Limit uses your device's GPS to determine your current speed and location.
- Speed is calculated on your device. Road and place-name lookups can send precise coordinates or a surrounding search area to map-service providers, which also receive normal network information such as your IP address.
- The app is not designed to record a journey history. However, remote road lookups, optional contributions and diagnostic reports can contain location-related information; see below.
Analytics and Diagnostics
- We use Firebase Analytics for usage statistics and Firebase Crashlytics for crashes and selected non-fatal failures.
- These services may receive app and OS versions, device information, app-instance or installation identifiers, usage events and diagnostic state. Such identifiers are not the same as anonymous data.
- Earlier releases included precise coordinates, road names and optional user-provided text or identifiers in some diagnostic payloads. We are reducing these payloads in updated releases. Updating the app does not erase reports already collected.
Purchase Information
- If you purchase a subscription, payment is handled by Google Play or Apple's App Store, depending on your device.
- The app receives purchase and entitlement information needed to unlock or restore premium features.
- We do not store your payment details or billing information.
2. Optional Accounts and Advertising
- An account is optional for basic speed monitoring. If you sign in, Firebase Authentication processes account identifiers and information supplied by your sign-in method, such as your email address and display name.
- Optional account services can store your selected username, synced settings and road contributions in Firebase.
- Advertising is currently disabled, and we do not share data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
- We do not require you to create an account.
3. Optional Road Contributions
If you choose to submit a road correction or speed limit:
- The app stores the submission in Firebase Firestore, not directly in your OpenStreetMap account.
- A submission can include a road identifier, road name, precise coordinates, speed limit, time, vehicle configuration and contributor identifier. Your chosen leaderboard name may be included when sharing is enabled.
- Contributions are optional and may be used to supply road information to other users. They are separate from your optional account settings.
4. Third-Party Services
Speed/Limit uses the following third-party services:
- OpenStreetMap Overpass API and Nominatim - To look up road data using coordinates or a geographic search area. These requests are not limited to approximate location.
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics - For usage statistics and diagnostic reporting, including SDK-generated identifiers. See Firebase privacy information.
- Google AdMob - Advertising support is bundled with the app but currently disabled. The app does not initialize AdMob or request advertisements while this remains disabled.
- Firebase Authentication and Firestore - For optional accounts, synced settings and road contributions.
- Apple App Store lookup and Google Play In-App Updates - To check for available updates. The iOS lookup sends the app identifier and device-locale country, not GPS coordinates; Apple also receives normal network information.
- Google Play Billing and Apple StoreKit - For purchases and entitlement handling.
5. Data Storage
- Preferences and road caches are stored locally. When account sync is enabled, selected settings are also stored in Firebase.
- Firebase stores account information, synced settings, contributions and diagnostics as applicable. External map services process lookup requests under their own policies.
6. Children's Privacy
Speed/Limit is not intended for use by children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Your Rights and Account Deletion
You can contact support@itomic.com.au about access, correction or deletion of your information. You can also:
- Delete your account in the app from Settings > Account. This removes the Firebase Authentication account, reserved username and synced settings. If the app requires a recent sign-in, follow its re-authentication prompt and retry.
- If you cannot access the app, email support@itomic.com.au to request account deletion. Uninstalling does not itself delete cloud records, contributions or historical diagnostics.
- Disable location permissions in your device settings.
- Contact us about retained contributions or diagnostics; account deletion should not be assumed to remove these records automatically.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
